Right, the plant was shut down in the 1950s. It’s on a point of land jutting out into Lake Union across from downtown Seattle. In the 1970s the land was turned into an expansive city park, with many of the original structures retained. It was the first park of it’s type in the US, maybe the world, incorporating industrial sctructures as a theme, rather than removing them all.
What a great idea. It keeps the history and gives the public a beautiful space. Although I love nature I find some industrial forms beautiful as well – particularly the older ones.
