The Space Needle is Seattle’s most iconic building and I’ve been enthralled by it ever since I remember first seeing it on a day trip to Seattle from Snohomish as a little kid. It was built for the 1962 World’s Fair and contains an observation deck and two restaurants. The top restaurant rotates once per hour so that diners get to enjoy the entire 360 degree view during their meal.

This air raid siren located on 1st Ave NE at Northacres Park is one of only two known left standing in Seattle, though both are non-operational. (The other is located in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood and has been repainted.)
This Sunday the 30th Heron Habitat Helpers will be at Commodore Park with telescopes. If you’d like to watch great blue herons tending to their chicks in the rookery this is a great time to go. The event is from noon to 1:30 pm and naturalists will be on hand to provide info and answer questions. I think they’ll be set up in the west section near the parking lot.
Starting on May 28th the free outdoor music concerts will begin at the Ballard Locks. The concerts are held near the Visitor Center most Saturdays and Sundays through September 16th. July 4th this year marks the centennial of the locks, so there will be a lot going on this summer. See this page for more details.
I had kind of a weird day today so am late in posting this, but didn’t want to let Earth Day pass by without celebrating the beauty of our planet.
