All About Apples

On Saturday, September 24th the Friends of Piper’s Orchard will be hosting the 10th Annual Festival of Fruit from 10 am to 2 pm at the Environmental Center in Carkeek Park.

The apple orchard was originally planted in the 1890s on land that eventually became part of one of Seattle’s most popular parks. Friends of Piper’s Orchard is a group of volunteers who rescued the orchard from invasive plants and work to preserve the health of the orchard so it will last for many years to come.

The festival is free to the public and activities will include an apple pie contest, cider pressing, live music, and orchard tours. See this Parkways post for full details.

Seattle Viewpoints

I’ve added a new page to my blog menu with a list of Seattle viewpoints. It breaks down Seattle area viewpoints by category. So if you’re looking for a specific type of scenery for a picnic, want to know where you can watch trains or boats, or are looking for interesting places to go for your photography hobby, this should make it easy to find which parks might have what you’re looking for.

The Seattle viewpoints page only includes parks that I have already previewed, so is in no way comprehensive at this time. As I preview more parks with views I will update the page.

I also recently updated the Lazy Birding page to list the best parks I’ve previewed so far for easy bird watching in the Seattle area. The list is at the bottom of the page and it will be updated as I go as well.
