Olmstead Parks Survey

Seattle Parks has completed a study for restoration projects at 10 of the Olmstead Parks in the city. You can find the page here. In the middle of the page is a link to a survey for park users. The survey is very quick to fill out, though I encourage people to take a couple minutes and use the comment section to detail any concerns or priorities you have for any of the parks on the list. I used the section to discuss the needs of the mobility impaired who are ambulatory.

Free Admission to the Volunteer Park Conservatory

volunteer park conservatory in seattle

The admission fee for the Volunteer Park Conservatory is small ($4 for adults, $2 for youth, under 12 free), but it’s enough to push the Conservatory down on the things-to-do list for a lot of people. Now’s your chance to visit without having to pay. Admission is free until February 28th.

The free admission comes courtesy of the Bennet-Shear family. The children made a generous donation to celebrate their parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. The children grew up nearby and often walked to the park and toured through the conservatory, which was free to enter until 2013. What a neat way to honor their parents and benefit the community!

The Conservatory is open 10 am to 4 pm every day except Mondays.

One of the cool things about living there was that we were surrounded by National Forests so a group of us took full advantage by going camping together as often as our work schedules allowed.

Three of the people I hung out with were Chris and Connie, twin sisters and part of the camping gang, and Jody.
