An Unexpected Gift

On Friday I arrived in Ellensburg to house sit for my aunt for a week, my first vacation in two years. The normally two hour drive ended up taking just under four hours, and today’s post was going to be about an unplanned sidetrip to Snoqualmie while attempting to avoid part of a hideous traffic jam on I-90.

V is for Violent Storm

Seattle thunderstorms are typically wimpy. Sometimes all we get is a single peal of thunder.

But last week the Puget Sound area was hit with an unusually violent thunderstorm. At least one microburst in the South Sound area sent trees crashing through houses. Near where I live several key traffic lights were out due to lightning strikes, backing up rush hour traffic and turning a five minute leg of the journey into a 45 minute ordeal.

I luckily avoided all that. But I did go to Magnuson Park and capture some of the angry looking clouds. (Cee’s B&W Challenge this week is the letter V.)

S is for Space Needle

The Space Needle is Seattle’s most iconic building and I’ve been enthralled by it ever since I remember first seeing it on a day trip to Seattle from Snohomish as a little kid. It was built for the 1962 World’s Fair and contains an observation deck and two restaurants. The top restaurant rotates once per hour so that diners get to enjoy the entire 360 degree view during their meal.
