Every summer Discovery Park runs a shuttle bus to the beach to handle crowds on weekends.
There are only a handful of parking spaces at the beach and to use them requires a special permit from the Environmental Learning Center at the park. The permits are only available for those who have children under 6 years of age, are 62+ years-old, or are physically disabled. Everyone else has to hike to the beach.
In the summer there aren’t enough permit spaces to handle demand and there are more non-hikers who would like to explore the beach or take photos of the lighthouse.
The free shuttle bus runs every weekend from Saturday on Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
The bus leaves at intervals all day on Saturdays and Sundays from the Environmental Learning Center parking lot starting at 10 am.
The last pickup time at the beach is at approximately 5:30 pm.
When the shuttle is running no beach parking permits are issued. Permits are still available Tuesday through Friday. (The center is closed on Mondays.)
