S is for Space Needle
The Space Needle is Seattle’s most iconic building and I’ve been enthralled by it ever since I remember first seeing it on a day trip to Seattle from Snohomish as a little kid. It was built for the 1962 World’s Fair and contains an observation deck and two restaurants. The top restaurant rotates once per hour so that diners get to enjoy the entire 360 degree view during their meal.

Cold War Relic
This air raid siren located on 1st Ave NE at Northacres Park is one of only two known left standing in Seattle, though both are non-operational. (The other is located in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood and has been repainted.)
Photography for Beginners Part 6: Manual Mode
Each post in this series builds on information discussed in previous posts. See the Photography for Beginners page on the menu for links to all the posts.
In this post I am going to discuss using Manual Mode. Manual Mode is usually designated by an M on your camera mode dial, if it has one.
For most beginners Manual Mode sounds intimidating. But modern digital cameras have your back. As long as you pay attention to what your camera is telling you, there’s no reason to treat Manual Mode as something scary that only experts know how to use.
Anyone who understands the exposure info displayed on the camera screen or viewfinder can successfully use Manual Mode.
