Watching and identifying dragonflies and damselflies has become a popular hobby similar to birding. While there isn’t as much variety as with birds, there are more than 5,000 species worldwide. Washington State has over 80 species.

One of the fun things about my visits to my aunt’s place just outside of Ellensburg is driving the surrounding country roads and looking at animals not seen in backyards here in Seattle. This pair of beef cattle seemed perfectly content together on an early August morning.
