This coming weekend will be a busy one as we head into Seafair with some great events taking place all over the city, including some popular cultural festivals. Below I’ve highlighted three events taking place at city parks.
Visiting the Herons
If you love great blue herons, this is a great time of year to visit Commodore Park. The herons are everywhere. Many of the young birds from the rookery have fledged and are learning to hunt, and adults are supplying food for chicks still in the nest.
Photography for Beginners Part 8: Focusing Continued

This is a continuation of the discussion on focus started in Part 7. In that post I concentrated on various features cameras may have related to focusing, especially when it comes to autofocus. In this post we’ll talk about how to put some of that information into practical use.

Photographers on YouTube
Over the last few months I’ve been watching a lot of photography videos on YouTube. I’ve learned quite a bit in general and picked up some useful tips, but a lot of my enjoyment comes from the video footage some landscape photographers shoot of beautiful locations, including from drones.
I’m never going to be the kind of photographer who travels long distances just to get a specific shot, or who hikes up a mountain, down a steep cliff, or miles through a forest to get to a great location. But I can do that vicariously through others and enjoy the fruits of their labors.
