In this post I’m going to discuss shooting in Aperture Priority Mode, usually designated by an A on your camera’s mode dial (if it has one).

What is Aperture Priority Mode?

In Aperture Priority Mode you make lens aperture your priority in how you choose to expose an image. You select which aperture you want to use and the camera will automatically choose the appropriate shutter speed to go with it.

In this post I’m going to discuss Shutter Priority Mode, usually designated by an S on your camera mode dial if it has one. (Tv, or time value, on Canon cameras.)

What is Shutter Priority Mode?

It’s called Shutter Priority Mode because you are making the shutter speed your priority in how you expose the image. In Shutter Priority Mode you control the shutter speed and allow the camera to automatically choose the correct aperture to go with it.

The details of modes and settings depend on your specific camera. If you only have a phone camera you can’t adjust much of anything, which is the primary reason phone users who get into photography purchase a real camera.

Photography for Beginners: Introduction

 

 

It’s easy to get the mistaken impression that photography is all about cameras. But a camera is actually just a tool that gathers light.

The (abbreviated) definition of photography is: The art or process of producing an image by the action of light.

The word photograph itself comes from the Greek words photo, meaning light, and graph, which means write. A photo print is essentially light written onto a piece of special paper.
