In the previous two posts we discussed some questions to help you decide if you should upgrade your camera. If you’re not sure, I suggest reading those posts first.

In this post I assume you have definitely decided to buy a new camera but aren’t sure which type of camera is best for you or maybe you’re overwhelmed by all the different models available. The info in this post applies whether you’re buying your first real digital camera or are upgrading from a more basic camera.

Lenses are often much more important than the camera body.

Part 20: Buying a Tripod

When talking about photography gear it’s natural to want to discuss which new camera to buy. The thought of new gear is exciting. But that’s often the wrong place to start.

The first question shouldn’t be which camera. The first question should be, do I need a new camera?

This question assumes that you already have a camera and that you can’t afford to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on every whim. The money spent needs to be justified as a worthwhile purchase.
