Happiness is Twilight

My favorite time of day has always been evening twilight. Photographers call it the blue hour. I call it the watery time, when the sky becomes like a darkening pond overhead. It takes on a quality and color that makes me want to cry from the beauty of it and that I can almost drink in and taste.

This photo was taken in June 2015 at Golden Gardens and is posted for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge with the theme of happy.

  1. What a beautiful photo! I’ve tried to capture that moment when the sky is that exact color many times and always failed. You captured it perfectly!

Twilight also makes me happy and is my favorite time of day. I was just thinking about it last night, having felt anxious and down all day and then wonderful and happy after the sun went down.

    • If I’m remembering correctly I used a special scene setting on my camera. Normally I just use the regular mode and forget that all the special scene categories even exist. But at twilight that often ends up with a kind of washed out lavender effect. Which can be attractive in its own way, but doesn’t reflect what your eyes are seeing. I think the setting was cool night mode, but looking at the photo meta data doesn’t say. Using the setting I did renders the colors much closer to how it looks with my eyes.

      • I should play around with the special scene settings on my camera. I’ve used the sunset setting a few times but haven’t tried any of the others. Whatever you used, it did a fabulous job of capturing that beautiful blue that my eyes just can’t get enough of. Well done!
