Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week is in her 5 Senses series, with the theme: Seeing – anything that stimulates or delights you visually.

I’m a very visual person, so there is an almost infinite multitude of things that delight me. But when thinking about this, what I keep coming back to is water. There is a line in the song “Cool Change” by Little River Band that says, “I was born in the sign of water, and it’s there that I feel my best.”

That’s me. And it shows up in my photography. I love photographing everything water, from dew drops on fallen leaves to the mighty Pacific Ocean.

The above photo is one of my favorites, because of how it makes me feel whenever I look at it. It was taken in October 2005 on a mini road trip to Leavenworth with my best friend. We both had fun with our cameras that day. We were day tripping to enjoy the fall colors, but more than half of my photos were of rivers, lakes, and streams.

Sidenote: A day trip to Leavenworth is a great idea. But if, like us, you make a lot of stops along the way, you might find yourself exhausted at the end of the day and dreading the return drive home. On trips after that we stayed in Leavenworth at Bindlestiff’s Cabins. They’re very reasonably priced for Leavenworth lodging, and each tiny cabin has a deck overlooking a small river, so more water pictures!

  1. I can almost hear the sound of the water when looking at that photo!

I am hoping to talk my husband into an overnight trip to Leavenworth this fall so I’m grateful for the tip on Bindlestiff’s Cabins. A cabin overlooking the river sounds perfect!

    • I can hear the sound of the water too! The cabins are old travel court motel style places, with just a bathroom, bed(s), and kitchinette with mini fridge and microwave. They aren’t modern or fancy, but the decks are wonderful and pretty roomy. It’s been a few years since the last time we stayed there, but they used to allow dogs for an extra fee as long as you arranged it ahead of time. The cabins are on the east edge of town, so still very convenient.
